Lecture/Demo

Golden Paints

The Golden lecture/demo is a two-hour free educational presentation on acrylic paints, gels and mediums: an advanced technical explanation of acrylics, and their inherent possibilities. It covers information about the different types of pigments, different viscosities and types of paints, grounds and color mixing. Various gels and mediums are demonstrated. You will learn how to extend paint to save money, and how to mix paints with gels to create unique textural surfaces. Learn how to use different products to make surfaces for watercolors, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil and soft pastels. Techniques for the use of iridescent and metallic paints will be shown. The lecture covers lightfastness for pigments, proper acrylic priming techniques, and health and safety concerns. Free Packet of Literature and Samples.

Lectures run about 1 ½ to 2 hours.

Workshops

Acrylics: The Future of Painting?

Experience the vast potential of acrylics. This workshop is for the artist who wants to learn how to paint with acrylics or is considering changing to acrylics for reasons of health, environmental issues or aesthetic concerns. This workshop will address how to control the drying time of acrylic paint, as well as techniques associated with oils, such as wet-into-wet and glazing. You will be introduced to a new line of "historic colors" that are stable, safe and humane, but look and feel just like oils. Understand how and why pigments mix the way they do and which pigments make wonderful glazes and which ones don't. We will use a variety of gels and mediums to extend and alter the pigments' viscosity and discuss why you need to varnish your acrylic paintings. All participants will receive a generous sample of acrylics provided by Golden Acrylics. Roy Kinzer, our advanced painting instructor, will provide us with this unique opportunity.

Acrylics For Oil Painters

This will be the first Workshop given in my large new studio in Union City, NJ. 10 minutes from the Hoboken PATH train and about 25 minutes from Manhattan.

This Workshop is for oil painters who are considering switching to Acrylics, and for acrylic painters who wish to learn how acrylics work. If you are considering changing to acrylics for reasons of health, environmental issues or aesthetic concerns this Workshop is for you. You will learn how to control the drying time of acrylic paint, as well as techniques associated with oils, such as wet-into-wet and glazing. You will be introduced to a new line of "historic colors" that are stable, safe and humane, but look and feel just like oils.

Also have you ever have had trouble mixing the color you want? This workshop is prefect because we discuss pigments which helps demystify mixing colors. Understand how and why pigments mix the way they do and which pigments make wonderful glazes and which ones don’t. We will use a variety of gels and mediums to extend and alter the pigments’ viscosity and discuss why you need to varnish your acrylic paintings.

This is not a "how to paint" workshop but an intensive, 4 hour hands-on workshop that explains how acrylics work. You will leave with a lot of information and even more in free paint samples.
